Slip Disc Treatment

Slip Disc Treatment focuses on relieving pain and nerve compression caused by a herniated or prolapsed intervertebral disc. A slip disc occurs when the soft inner portion of a spinal disc protrudes through its outer layer and presses on nearby nerves, commonly causing back pain, leg pain (sciatica), numbness, or weakness. Most cases can be successfully managed with non-surgical treatments, while surgery is considered only when symptoms are severe or persistent.

Non-Surgical Treatment Options
  • Medications: Pain relievers, anti-inflammatory drugs, and muscle relaxants help reduce pain and swelling.
  • Physiotherapy: Targeted exercises strengthen back muscles, improve flexibility, and reduce nerve pressure.
  • Activity Modification: Avoiding heavy lifting and prolonged sitting helps prevent further disc irritation.
  • Epidural Steroid Injections: In selected cases, injections reduce inflammation around the compressed nerve.
  • Lifestyle Changes: Weight management and posture correction play a key role in long-term recovery.
When is Surgery Required?

Surgery may be recommended if there is severe nerve compression, progressive weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or if pain does not improve after adequate conservative treatment. Minimally invasive procedures such as microdiscectomy or endoscopic discectomy are commonly performed to remove the disc fragment pressing on the nerve.

Recovery & Prevention

Most patients recover well with proper treatment and guided rehabilitation. Regular exercise, maintaining correct posture, core strengthening, and avoiding excessive strain on the spine can help prevent recurrence and maintain long-term spinal health.
